about

This suite includes:
- Mawal Ghadar Ya Zaman
- Taqsim Violin
- Sid al-Aasari
- Ya Tyra Tiri
- Ya Amal iSham

SHARQ ENSEMBLE was formed 1998 in Boston. You can hear from our performances that we are friends, partaking in a joyful act. This particular recording was made in July 2022 at a concert for the Middlebury Arabic Language institute in Vermont.

Aboud Agha is a phenomenal singer, originally from Haleb (Aleppo) Syria. Here he is singing his ideal repertoire, songs that he sang his entire life, songs from his hometown. He guides this performance with voice & oud, and we all sing the chorus with him. You will also hear many people from the audience, mostly Arabic teachers and students, contributing their voices and clapping. It is an organic "jalsa" style where everyone enjoys the music as a communal act.
